The summer is here!

Ok, clearly summer started early. Everyone staying with us, don’t forget about our awesome roof top deck at Capital View. We have music playing, with nice hammocks and some lounge chairs over there, as well as a grill if you’re interested in spending the evening up there. On Sundays we will also continue having our weekly BBQ cookouts with drinks and games!

Metro Updates: Inauguration

Inauguration Day Travel Information – Friday, January 20

Hours and Service

  • Metrorail is open 4 a.m. – midnight with rush-hour service and peak fares from opening until 9 p.m.
  • Yellow Line Rush+ service will be in effect 4 a.m. – 9 p.m. between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt stations.

Changes and Closures

  • For security reasons, Archives, Federal Triangle, Mt Vernon Sq, Pentagon and Smithsonian stations will be closed on Inauguration Day. Plan to use other stations.
  • Several downtown Metrorail station entrances will be designated as “entry only” or “exit only” to safely manage crowds.
  • Some escalators will be intentionally turned off to regulate the flow of customers.
  • Pennsylvania Ave NW will be closed between the Capitol and White House for the Inaugural Parade.
  • Many Metrobus routes will operate on detours or will operate in segments due to road closures near the National Mall.

New! Women’s March on Washington – Saturday, January 21

  • Metrorail will open two hours early — at 5:00 a.m.this Saturday.
  • Metrorail will run on an “enhanced Saturday schedule”, adding up to two dozen additional trains, to accommodate those attending the Women’s March on Washington.

New Year, what’s going on!

Once again, we hope everyone had super happy holidays and New Years’ season. It was awesome over here, mainly with all the work our staff was doing renovating (painting/patching/creating) at the hostels and the apartments. Everything is revamped just a bit, so it doesn’t look old and stale, as we try to make it look fresh every year.

We hope everyone enjoys their stay with us, and please if you ever have any questions or concerns, just reach out to us on our website or social accounts. We care 100% about every bad and a good note or review, and will address those ASAP.

Onward to 2017! Come visit DC, and check out all the awesome spots, and especially our newest museum – we have tricks and tips for visiting it faster!

We also have daily events going on still, so go ahead and sign up for Tuesday drinking and Pizza (it’s getting more popular) or Wednesday just pure drinking =). We will be meeting for both of those at CAPITAL VIEW main lobby, and all walk over together. Or you could wonder off by yourselves in smaller groups, and let them know you’re coming from the hostels!

Inauguration 2017 + Things to do!

hey hey!

Some thoughts on what just happened the other day, and what you can do about it, and more!

We will provide an awesome place for everyone to stay, no matter what your plans are. However, keep in mind, that keeping with nearly everyone else’s policies, we are not refunding reservations made from January 18th to January 21st especially. It’s a busy time, and now that we know, who the President will be, make sure your reservations are final!

All of our locations are within walking distance from the US Capitol, with EXECUTIVE SUITES PLUS and CAPITAL VIEW hostel literally within viewing distance with some binoculars. We all hope for what’s best for this country, and either way – whether filled with celebration or protest – it will still be an enormous event over here in Washington, DC.

Meanwhile, onto some brighter news! Keep in mind we have our weekly Friday event at ultrabar.eventbrite.com – so sign up, join up, ask us questions, and attend. Free entry for 21+, and $10 for 18+ for the biggest young people club in DC, and right in downtown – walking distance away. Also keep in mind there’s many more things out there to do for free or low prices, outside of being a super tourist. Museums are great over here, and with the opening of the latest addition, you could spend your entire trip literally going through them, and not have enough time. However, in the evening there are other things you could do. Here’s an example – go check out an IMPROV shows – really good:

UPCOMING: IMPROV: The Fourth Annual District Improv Festival continues on THURS, Nov 9 with two $5 shows at Source Theatre at 7:30pm & 9:30pm & More Shows FRI, Nov 12 & SAT, Nov 12, Free or $10 + Two shows FRI, Nov 11 at Unified Scene Theater

Axwell at Echostage this Friday! FREE!

Keeping everyone updated on the latest free event, due to our awesome partners at #DCCLUBBING. These guys are bringing in AXWELL to perform at one the coolest stages in Echostage. If you have no plans this Friday evening, head over there for free with this direct link.

It always depends on what the guests/public is into, but usually the performances are really good and the place fills up.

Enjoy!

Halloween Weekend!

We have tons of guests, who come to the city on an open schedule to explore the city. Planning little to none actually works for this city, since there are so many museums and monuments, not to mention the zoo, and historic houses and other points of interest that are all free and open for the most of the day.

However, keep in mind that there are things that locals also do, that may be just as much fun to attend, to experience the different shades of DC. Something that’s not free, but sure to be entertaining is the beer festival at 1PM this upcoming Saturday at the Yards. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rock-the-core-cider-festival-tickets-27333393917?aff=es2  Check it out, as you may be actually interested.

Or celebrate Halloween in style with a costume of your choice at one of the nicest weekend venues that offers free admission until 11PM if you sign up right here! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/halloween-at-the-park-with-dj-crooked-saturday-oct-29th-tickets-27903492096?aff=es2

Finally, of course we’re going to do our little shindig as well! Check us out @Capital View on Saturday, and check with the front desk to find out exactly what time we’re starting up.

Free ideas for the weekends

There are ridiculous amount of things you can do for free or almost free in DC, thanks to just – one example – the Smithsonian Institution. Museums in themselves can eat up all of your day, after you just visit one or two, out of more than 20. But there also TONS of events every single hour of the day!

I bet you’ve never participated in a Lemur Feeding at 2PM at the Zoo, or the ever popular yearly “BOO at the ZOO”, starting from 5:30PM.

Most if not all events, are ACTUALLY FREE – just another reason why Washington, DC is an amazing city to visit.
